Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General have announced the appointment of Ms. Elizabeth Edwards to the Nelson Police Board as the representative from the municipal council of the City of Nelson. Ms. Edwards’ term will end December 31, 2017.
The Nelson Police Board and Nelson Police Department wish to thank Director Roger Higgins for his contribution and dedication to the Board and wish him success in his future endeavors.
Ms. Lauren Mirva became NPD’s newest police constable today, after being sworn in by Judicial Justice Laurie Langford. Constable Mirva is now one of three female officers with the Nelson Police Department.
Lauren is from Nelson and graduated from LV Rogers Secondary School where she was awarded the top female athlete award for her graduating year. Constable Mirva has a degree in Criminology from Mount Royal University and has worked as a security officer and seasonal forest firefighter.
Lauren enjoys snowboarding, tennis and outdoor activities, including hiking and biking. Lauren is excited to begin her new career in law enforcement. Lauren follows a family tradition in law enforcement as her father is a retired member of the RCMP who is presently serving as a deputy sheriff in Nelson and her sister is a deputy sheriff in Alberta. She will commence training on September 19, 2016 at the Justice Institute of BC.
