❄️ Winter Snow Operations
As we head into winter, here’s a quick refresher on the City’s snow clearing and sanding priorities:
- Priority 1: Emergency routes, schools, bus routes, major access roads, and downtown streets
- Priority 2: Critical utility routes and major hills
- Priority 3: Cross streets, intersections, crosswalks, accessible downtown parking, bus stops, and fire hydrants
- Priority 4: Dead-end streets
- Priority 5: Rear lanes and dead-end lanes
Reminder: We follow this priority plan for all snow and ice events. Specific location requests can only be addressed once priority routes are complete.
On-street parking:
From November 1 to April 30 each year, vehicles are required to be parked on the odd side of the street on odd numbered days, and on the even side of the street on even numbered days in residential areas. This gives snowplows the opportunity to clear roads effectively. Under Traffic Bylaw 3156, 2010 vehicles that interfere with snow removal operations can be towed, so follow the even/odd rule when parking your vehicle. Watch for posted signage on streets.
💡 Helpful Tips:
- Use Priority One routes during snowy/icy conditions
- Avoid side streets when possible to ensure smoother travel
- Remember the even/odd rule in residential areas
