Emergency Services Camp

The Nelson Police, the Nelson RCMP, Nelson Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance along with a committee of teachers, parents and dedicated citizen volunteers, host a three-day Emergency Services Camp at LV Rogers Secondary School.

The camp provides grade eleven and twelve students from around the West Kootenays a unique experience into a career in emergency response. The focus of the camp is to build positive relationships between first responders and the youth of the area. It also offers those contemplating a a career in the first responder field an experience to help them in their final decision. The candidates are subject to physical training, drill, self-defence techniques, accident investigation and firefighting techniques. Students attend lectures, participate in scenarios and work together as a team to complete the camp. The highlights of the weekend are most often reputed to be the firearms training, playing soccer in full firefighter turn-out gear and the meet and greet where all the first responders come together to answer the students' questions.
