Nelson Youth Action Network

The Nelson Youth Action Network (NYAN) is a Columbia Basin Trust grant-funded program that supports activities and diverse opportunities based on local youth priorities to engage youth to connect more and with our community. The NYAN also collaborates with organizations that work and interact with youth. An oversight committee formed by youth, council members, and local youth workers supports youth priorities and directs NYAN and programming. Our mission is to support fun, safe, programming activities and events that are relevant to the interests of the youth in Nelson.

NYAN offers programming for teens and shares space with the NDYC but there is no programming cross over. Kids that are 13+ are better suited for NYAN programming than NDYC.

The NYAN started at the Nelson and District Youth Centre in 2017. Since then, NYAN has provided amazing opportunities and experiences for teen youNYAN_Logoths.

All of our programs are free to join and include snacks and beverages. Our current programming includes:

  • Under the Umbrella, a support group for the 2slgbtqia+ community.  (Tuesdays 4-6pm)
  • Dungeons and Dragons night, a weekly meetup of passionate youth players (Wednesdays 5-7:30pm)
  • Art club a chance for youth to develop their Artistic skills. (Thursdays 3:30-5:30pm)
  • Tech club An innovative and creative space for developing computer literacy. (Friday 4-7pm)
  • Cooking club, a biweekly night where youth can develop their culinary skills (alternating Fridays 4-7pm)

If you would like to be part of a fantastic opportunity or learn more about what the NYAN has to offer, please connect us at nyan@nelson.ca, or by phone 250-352-8121.
